it depends on your priority and how much you have. Do you plan to leave the house debt free to your partner? If you get a critical illness or some illness to prevent you working for the longterm or short term? Are you worried about being made redundant?
Ask yourself and your partner what will prevent you from keeping your lifestyle or even your mortgage payments? How much savings have you got?
Your advisor should have recommended what you should get. Some are product pushers but the really good advisors will tell you the minimum you should get.

we both have secure jobs - mortgage is £620 - for 25 years loan is £300 for 3 years, not sure what to do ? dont understand it all to be honest. no savings at present - used for furniture, solicitors fees etc. thanks0

Hi to the op, well i have asked this same question a couple of times and am still just as confused! we are the same as you, no savings etc and have no idea where to start, im self employed aswell so think that confuses matters a bit!
We are awaiting our financial advisor back from his holidays so if i don't hear anything before then i'll let yo know what he reccomends!
