To use undercoat or not?

Is it OK to use a less expensive (e.g. Crown) paint as first coat and more expensive (e.g. Dulux) as second coat?
Or both coats have to be of same paint?
You should always use the same type of paint (emulsion) but you can put layers of white down first before putting your colour on.
I always do this anyway if painting over a bold colour as you can get big tubs of white paint for relatively little but colours tend to be more expensive.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
