I don't understand how you have come up with a figure of £130 for 2 1/2 years, that suggests you think there is only a difference of £1 between the single person and couple rate.
I think the OP and his parter would both have been getting the under 24 rate of £57.35 so the comparison would be £114.70 received v's couples rate of £113.70 so £1 per week0 -
Please try not to worry yourself sick about it
They will work out a repayment plan and they will only take back what you can afford to pay each week. They will do an income/expenditure form.
You will not be left destitute.
If you have any further problems then speak to your local cab office.0 -
How can they prove your partners. Yes you live together but that doesn't mean to say your partners. I would have thought only a marriage or civil partnership could prove this in the eyes of the law. Anyways as perviously said likely only want difference back and if you can't afford it all at once a affordable repayment plan will be worked out with you.0

The DWP has many ways of proving it through data sharing processes with other agencies and they are coming down very hard on couples claiming as singles (quite rightly IMO)
OP have you and your partner been claiming other income based benefits as single people like HB or CTR.0 -

The op states there living with her parents and not claiming HB or CTR.
Shes already stated this.0 -
Please let us know how you get on op. Hopefully you will only have to pay the difference between the single and joint claim.
All the best. I hope it works out for you.0
