Travel insurance with pre existing medical conditions

Hi all,

As the title says, I am a 23 year old trying to find some travel insurance for a year of travelling around Asia (mainly Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand). Normally, this would be easy, but I occasionally suffer with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation so this is proving difficult, or at least proving difficult to find a good deal...

Does anyone have any advice on which providers are good in this instance? (other than comparison websites which I have already got some quotes from)

Thanks in advance!

Jez

  • Only other options really are looking at the hundreds of intermediaries that arent on the aggregators and/ or looking to see if any charities related to your condition has struck a deal with any insurers for a more sympathetic approach

Thanks. I contacted BHF but they were unable to suggest anyone specifically. There are recommendations on their website, but none of which specialise in heart conditions. I'm at a very low risk due to my age but the policies are still astronomical!

Very sorry to hear of your problems. It's expected at my age (70s with lots of chronic things wrong) but really unpleasant for a young person. We get one-off insurance policies from Staysure. Annual ones now much too expensive. I've been through those medical questionnaires for me and OH so many times, and find Staysure the cheapest (not by much). A couple of years ago I did a one-trip policy with a company which charged a significantly lower premium but really loaded the excess if you actually were ill - we weren't. I'm sorry but I can't remember their name, but if you're up for a bit of financial risk that might be an alternative to a huge up front premium. Good luck, and enjoy your trip !

We've used this broker for insurance with pre-existing medical conditions:
    http://www.the-insurance-surgery.co.uk/

In our case, it was life insurance rather than travel, but my hubby has a rare condition and most insurers won't offer him life insurance. The Insurance Surgery found an insurer who'd take him at a good price.

I just found the broker through Google and they had good reviews so we gave them a go. They don't charge you (they must be paid commission by the insurers) so nothing to lose by having a word and seeing what options they can find for you. You don't have to go ahead if you're not happy with the price.

"Get Going Travel Insurance" seems to be the best so far. Anyone had any experiences with them?
