Currently trying to rent a flat with my brother. We have to show bank statements to show that our wages get paid in. My account has been overdrawn for a little while it is an agreed overdraft but never go over my limit do you think it will be ok?
Secondly what do estate agents look for when doing the credit check i have a few debts but pay them every month and never miss and payment and still have a good credit score.
Any help would be great thanks!

The credit checks used by estate agents are not the same as those used by financial institutions. They are just looking for CCJs basically, so don't worry about that.
As for bank statements, I should imagine they are just looking for proof of income. But you never know, they might not like the overdraft situation. It's not like there are any rules or best practice procedures here you know, they (and/or the landlords behind them) make decisions based on whatever they want to.
The whole demanding a bank statement thing is not common, but you do hear about it more these days. Letting agents pretending they are real institutions like mortgage companies...0 -
If it is for proof of income, get a big black marker pen and redact all the other entries on the bank statement. They don't need to see the balance, or all those debit card entries in the Dog & Duck on Saturday night.
It you have online statements, you might be able to do this electronically."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
Will an employment contract showing your annual gross salary(assuming you are in permanent employment) be more appropriate + a reference check with your employer ?
Maybe offer to provide that, as it will be enough ?0 -

Thanks - these have all made me feel a bit less worried now! I will be getting some money from my parents in March so I will be able to clear the overdraft then.0
