What I hate about house shares is passive aggressive notes. When there's more than a few of you in the house you think 'who's that aimed at'

My old housemates were the worst for this. There was between 5 and 7 of us in the house and you wonder who wrote the note and also who it's for!

Another thing that really annoyed me was inviting friends over a lot, and I don't mean a couple, I mean a lot of friends. They take up space in the kitchen and living room, so when I want to sit down and have a meal I either have to put up with them making noise or eat in my room (which I hate doing). This happened at least every other weekend, for the whole weekend.

I can't wait till I stop house sharing, thankfully I live with less people now (no more waiting ages for the shower... 7 people, 1 shower)

I actually don't really have any problems with my housemates, well bar them using toilet roll but not replacing that but I solved that by just having my own supply.

Cleaning isn't an issue as everyone is pretty tidy and the landlords wife comes and cleans the communal areas every week.

My only issue is with one of my housemates who is a miserable !!!! who just blanks you if you try and say hello. He's also been aggressive to the other guy that lives here. Tbh none of us like him and if he moves out I wouldn't complain. I don't know if its just his age why he's so grumpy (he's about 45, the rest of us are in our twenties)

  • I am definitely not a sharer. Only shared twice, both times with quite strong natured people who would tell you to clean up etc, but wouldn't clean up after themselves. Neither arrangment lasted very long and after the second one played Reggae 24 hours a day (seriously until the early hours), - never my fav music and I get twitches if I hear it now.., decided never to share again. She had a cat too.., and never cleaned the tray out.

But it sounds like I got off lightly when reading the above lol!

<chuckle> Trust me, as somebody not a million miles from that age... No, it's not just his age. Some of us, umm, middle-aged people (Me? Middle-aged? NO! Not me...) are actually nice friendly people...

When I house-shared, every one of us broke the OPs five rules all the time. I have nothing but happy memories of those days. When I meet up with the other guys we laugh about it now. In particular, how we never once cleaned the grill in 2+ years, until it got so full of sausage grease that it fell off one evening, completely covering the chief offender in lard from neck to toe. How we laughed.

Edit: in fairness, I don't think anyone broke rule 3
