Purchasing travel insurance outside UK

I am a UK citizen but have lived in China for almost 3 years, I am traveling to the USA for 3 months before returning to the UK and need to purchase travel insurance. Can anyone recommend a provider who does not require me to start and finish my travel in the same location. I dont have any preexisting medical conditions.

Thanks!!

If you can find anyone who will sell you a policy I can't see why starting but not finishing in China would be an issue, there must be thousands of travellers every year who buy travel insurance starting in the UK with the intention of returning home but decide not to, my niece for starters, who is still in NZ 3 years after setting out on her gap year.

Your big issue may be whether you can actually get travel insurance issued for a gweilo in China, or whether a UK insurer will issue a policy when you are not resident or starting your travel in the UK.

considering the length of your stay in the US and the fact you are commencing journey from outside UK you are probably best looking at the backpacker-type insurance (not just for backpackers) such as worldnomads

I think you may have an interesting time getting insurance - many insurers will want you to declare that you're normally a permanent UK resident before offering cover, and that's clearly not you. Can you get any insurance from a local broker in China? Hong Kong, maybe? No matter what, I suspect you'll fall in the gap between cheap mass-market policies.

Just in case you missed the answer above:

    World Nomads.

Their policies are not cheap, but do the job that you need.
