Artificial Lawn Questions

Options
We are looking at getting artificial grass so that our dogs can use the garden all year round.

I was just wondering if people have any experience with artificial grass, good places to buy it for good prices or even of local companies in the Derbyshire area?

Here are the 2 types I've found so far:

http://www.edecks.co.uk/products/14823/129/484/0/Lush_Green_Ultimate

http://www.edecks.co.uk/products/17141/129/484/0/18mm_Birkdale_Supreme_Artificial_Grass

The samples above would cost £400 for the grass then I'm guessing a few hundred for installation?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi I had an artificial lawn laid about 3 weeks ago and it is absolutely lush!It cost £1100 and is worth every penny to me,no more mowing, edging, weeding or watering.Bliss.I used Easigrass and the two lads worked solidly from 8.30 till the light faded at 5pm,they even put a drainage pipe in on the soggy bit at the top of the garden and I have had lots of compliments on the look of it.Well pleased.I am not near Derby so don't know if you can get them up there but I think they are a franchise anyway.

Can you tell me the company you used please?

The two quotes we've had so far are between £2000 and £2400.

I'm not sure if these are good prices or not. The area we need to cover is 4 metres wide by 10 metres in length, so about 40 square metres in total.

apologies on the price, got the bill yesterday and I had read the estimate wrong! It came in at £1982 including fixings, installation and VAT,still good value in my eyes :)
the firm I used was Easigrass, found them on the internet so I'm guessing they should have some franchisees up your way too.I cannot find the square footage mentioned anywhere on my paperwork but this is a newbuild garden, tiny lol

Well the chap who quoted us has now come back and said he has some high quality grass and he can install it for £1500.

I'm not sure what to think and he says he needs an answer today. I got his information through rated people and all 6 of his user reviews are 5 stars.

It sounds like a good price but I would really want to look at the grass first and also for these types of jobs I shouldn't need to pay up front should I?

Also forgot to say, when the salesman came round to the house he brought a big fat sample pack of all the different grasses so I could choose by the look and feel of them. You need to see it really or you could end up with astro turf yuk!!

    hi ytfcmad

Could you recommend anywhere else to buy artificial grass from?

Has anyone installed artificial grass themselves? My rear garden is only 3 x 5m so i was hoping to do it myself

    Thanks

Don't forget when comparing the quotes above no one has helpfully included the area of their lawn which is how every decent artificial grass company quotes. Per square meter cost is what counts.

In my experience (proper) DIY artificial lawns cost about £30 per square meter (when I did 120sq m of lawn), including the long weekend hire of a vibrating wacker plate, some hired help and a skip. To have someone do it for you budget £40-£50 per square meter. At least down here in the South.

Smaller lawns might not require a wacker plate if you are willing to put in the work and you might save on the skip/s (£200-£400 ish) if you can dispose of the top soil and turf in your motor or small borrowed trailer.

That's for taking up the old lawn (disposal of top soil and lawn), hardcore down, layer of builders sand, weed membrane, artificial grass and finish. Extra drainage works will push the price up.

Plenty of online companies sell artificial grass but I would purchase a few samples or go view them as some look too fake, I prefer the type with fake dead grass in so it looks good but not luminous green.
  • Verdigrass in Chorley. also Selco selling it.

interesting prices.... how many sq mtrs.

PS: If ANY salesman says " Thats a one off price just for today" he is probably on commission and will not get the sale if he leaves without it,
