Driving Licence Renewal for the 60+'s
My driving licence (the paper part of a photocard licence) is very tatty & expires in November. We are having overseas driving holidays before then & I would prefer a licence that wasn't falling to pieces.
Am I right in thinking that for a 62 year old the licence will expire when I am 70 regardless of whether I renew it now or November & that the cost will be the same?
I don't find the information on the DVLA website easy to understand!

Your photo will expire after ten years, your entitlement to drive remains until you're 70.0 -
I would think so, when does you photo expire. The person who never makes a mistake never learns anything.0

Ignore the paper counterpart completely - from this June, it has no official purpose at all.

Thanks for that. It can all wait until November when my 10 year licence expires.0

If they use your passport photo for your driving licence does the 10 year life of the driving licence photo begin when your passport was issued or when they issue your new driving licence?0

It's 10 years from when the Licence was issued or up to your 70th birthday.
Renewals after 70 are free.
Here's some info on it - but they haven't updated it yet to include the paper bit is redundant after June and will no longer be issued.
Not before time and all.

Thank you but the reason for the question is that I am 62 but my passport photo, which they are suggesting that I use for my Driving Licence renewal will be 10 years old before I am 70 - when this new licence will expire.
Hence the question of when does the 10 year driving licence photo life begin. If it is when the Driving Licence is issued it could be nearly
20 years old by the time it ran out for a younger driver.
If it stops me needing another licence before age 70 I would prefer to use a new photo now.0 -

You'll be fine until you're 70 if you renew this year.0 -

Beware. The June deadline was originally January, and I wouldn't bet on it not changing again! After all, they've only had 17 years to get the technology in place, so what's a few more months?
Don't tear your paper counterpart up just yet.0
