We are coming to the end of saving for a deposit and are now looking at the actual process of buying a property as first time buyers. I have a quick question - when it comes to having a survey done, for instance if we decided on having a Homebuyers Report carried out, is it the normal thing to go though your bank to have it done as part of the mortgage application process or do you source your own Homebuyers Report? Is it something banks prefer or insist you do though them? Sorry, pretty clueless about the finer points!

Lenders insist on, at least, a valuation - they want to know that they're actually lending on a real house that might be sellable, not just a pile of knackered bricks. That might be done as part of the survey, they might insist on a separate one if they don't recognise your surveyor.
Personally, I'd rather pay a little extra and go for a surveyor I trusted.0
