Dell Datasafe Local Backup

My HDD died on me, but before it did I managed to back it up using Dell Datasafe Local Back.

However, when I try to restore it, it says one of the volumes is missing. I never deleted it, so I don't know what has happened to it.

The volume #278 is required (named backup_date_time PM.278.dsb)

I have tried to trick it by copying one of the other volumes and renaming to the volume that it is looking for, but that just corrupts the whole thing, so I had to delete it.

Anybody got any suggestions on how to get it to run?

  • Sounds like the backup itself has failed.

    Have you spoken to Dell?

No, not spoken to Dell. Laptop is well out warranty.

I'm sure it worked, as I have managed to retrieve some files from it previously (I think).

I've managed to re-install my laptop and everything I need, expect a few personal files, while they are not that important, I would like to get them back if possible.
  • Any Dell backup gurus on here?

Sorry not much help as my knowledge with backup is with other vendors like NetApp, EMC etc..

Giving it a little bit more thought it does seems like backup file has corrupted.

Going forward, I recommend looking at alternative backup solutions like dual drive NAS drive or non-limited backup options..
