I can't get internet on my desktop if I click on chrome it just goes blank if I try it with internet explorer it tries opening in safe search.net but doesn't open. Not sure if there is a virus I have avg which says it's ok I am using windows 7. Thought I would try you guys first as I can't really afford to pay someone to come and look and I am rubbish with technic stuff so any help would be great. My grandson has been on recently downloaded mine craft and a couple of other stuff adobe and not sure what else so possibly this might have done something

Thanks in advance

Safesearch.net is malware. Not sure why this is stopping you getting online, maybe avg has blocked access to the web. Might be worth trying system restore to before your grandson downloaded stuff. If you get online you need http://www.malwareremovalguides.info/safesearch-net-safesearch-toolbar-removal-instructions/

You don't type in a restore date. There should be a list of restore points to choose from.
    Run malwarebytes as previously suggested.

  • When I tried system restore the only date it brought up was today's date with no option to change

I don't know how to run malware as I can't access internet or can I do it another way????

Just a thought. Do you use Internet Explorer and have Norton as your internet protection?

If so, Norton has caused Internet Explorer to not work.

Rumrat refers to malwarebytes not malware, download it to a friends PC and copy it to a USB thumb drive and plug into a USB port on your machine.
  • Internet connection is fine just not able to access on desktop iPads/smartphones fine with connection

I don't normally use explorer I use chrome but nothing happens if I use explorer the safe net comes up

Not sure I will be able to download to another PC but will see if I can give it a go

    Thanks all

Thanks for that link. It seems like everyone in the world who uses IE9 and upwards and has Norton Anti-Virus / Internet Security installed has had their IE browser crippled by a recent Norton update. That explains why all our machines cannot open IE, although it does work if you open Windows in Safe Mode with Networking (which is why I can post this).

This is going to cost Symantec (Norton) dearly. Many businesses who rely on IE to run other applications or because it's the only browser rolled out to the workforce, are going to lose a lot of money over this.

According to responses on the Norton forum, Symantec have acknowledged the problem and are working on a fix to be rolled out via Automatic Updates when ready. They better get their skates on!

EDIT: Of course the real problem is that most people only have the one browser and if it's IE then they can't even access the internet to find out that this is the real cause of their problems. There must be hundreds of thousands of people around the world frantically trying Windows reinstalls etc.etc. all to no avail.
