Aol has taken over firfox?

I am using firefox 35.0.1 on my macbook air and stange things have started to happen. I use aol for email account and recently every new tab opens as an aol page. I used to have a page where recent sites were saved. That seems to have disappeared. Also an aol toolbar, sometimes 2, appears and although I can delete them by right click, they return the next time I log on.
Any suggestions? Aol seems to have taken over.

In Firefox go to Tools - Add-ons, and remove the AOL toolbar (I'm hazarding a guess something like that will be listed).

As for new tabs with aol pages, try going to Firefox Preferences - General, see what's set for: "When firefox starts". Maybe it's AOL, and possibly it's using that for new tabs too.

Also, if you can get a blank tab to appear, click the "gear" icon in the top right of the page, and you can choose Classic or Enhanced to get you page of recently-visited sites to show.

Thank you that has sorted out my aol problems. I don't seem to have any toolbar, previously I had one with some favourites on.

Click on View - Toolbars - Bookmarks Toolbar

That should get the favourites bar back.

They're back. Many thanks. That has cut through all the other explanations I have read.
