    Textbook stuff.

By the way, you may want to post your successful claim details on the FlyerTalk Forums' Marriott board. The thread is HERE (you'll see a few of mine there too )

I also need to say a big thank you to GlennTheBaker. I've just booked a £125 a night room in Montreal for £54.

I've tried posting on the flyertalk board but my posts just seem to disappear into the ether. The details are:

    Check-in date: 9th October 07
    Check-out date: 10th October 07
    Marriott rate reserved: 229
    Currency: CANADA DOLLAR (CAD)

    COMPARISON RATE INFORMATION
Lower rate found or reserved: 72
    Currency: BRITISH POUND (GBP)

Where did you find the lower rate: https://www.reserveahotelonline.com

We have reviewed your claim and have made the following modification to your reservation:

Rate: $99.45 Canadian Dollars before tax, $116.72 after tax = £54.06

    :D

Just need to find a good deal on a room in Toronto now.

SoozyJ22, your post is showing on the FlyerTalk forum. If I was you, I'd just edit it slightly to include the name of the hotel and city just in case somebody else is planning on staying there.

    When are you visiting Toronto?

Oops. thanks Glenn - I've tried to edit the hotel name on flyer talk but the post's disappeared again! I don't think it likes me. I also wanted to edit the price, since it went down after I pointed out that the rate I gave them included tax.

As for Toronto, I'll be there from the 4th of October for 2 nights. I'd like something walking distance from Union Station (with a suitcase, which rules out the hotels down on the lake because of the hill), in a reasonable area (I'll be there on my own) and either free internet or taken into account in the price. I was hoping to find something for £50-£55 a night (after tax), or $100 pre-tax but I'm struggling to find anything. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Edited to add that my definition of 'walkable' extends north to the Delta Chelsea. I'd also not want to be anywhere East of Yonge (though Bond Place or Pantages (I wish!!) would be ok since I know the area there is ok).

Am I being too picky? I'm used to being there in a group where we can split the cost of a room 4 ways - I've stayed at the Metropolitan and Marriott at the Eaton Centre in the past and also the Royal York, though BA were paying for that.

There is a Courtyard by Marriott in Downtown Toronto. It offers free high speed internet access in all rooms. For your dates, the total rate on Marriott.com is CDN $385.32, room only. www.find-rooms.com have the same deal for £158. Using the currency converter on the Marriott site, this equates to CDN $341.53. With the Best Rate Guarantee, you should be able to get the price down to approx CDN $256.15 - or £118.50.

Thanks Glenn, that's a good deal but that's slightly too far out for my liking. I think I need to work out where I compromise which will probably mean paying little more for a room nearer the station, but without having to get a taxi to somewhere cheaper but further away. Thanks so much for your help though - you're a real pro! If you spot anything else please let me know.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Toronto - my upcoming trip will be my first!

The Renaissance Downtown looks close to Union Station (at least on Google Map it does) but I can't find a price cheaper than the one on Marriott.com.

Yeah, either the Renaissance or the Residence would do the trick but I can barely find them anywhere else, let alone cheap. The Eaton Centre would also work, it looks like they've redecorated since I was last there and they had free wireless in the lobby.

What are your plans for Toronto? I mainly go for concerts but can probably give you some tips of things to do/see if you'd like.

ps do you know if posts always take hours to show up on flyertalk or is it just me? It's really annoying.

I will actually be staying at the Marriott Eaton Centre when I go in November. For your dates, it looks like this:-

    Best rate on Marriott.com - CDN $453.72
    www.find-rooms.com - £186.00 (CDN $398.09)

After your claim has been accepted, the adjusted rate should be around CDN $131 per night before tax.

Please feel free to PM me any tips regarding Toronto. We're going for 4 days, 22-26 November, for our honeymoon (we're very much city break types!).

    This might work:-

    Renaissance Toronto Downtown/Skydome

    Best rate on Marriott.com - CDN $362.52
    www.opodo.co.uk - £147.90 (CDN $316.54)

If a claim was accepted, the adjusted rate would be something like CDN $104.13 per night before tax.

I have had trouble before with posts not appearing immediately on the FlyerTalk forums but they do appear eventually!

Thanks Glenn, you're a star, but sadly the opodo rate doesn't include tax so it's no discount on the Marriott website.
