Cancelling contract with Anglian windows

My partner decided to go with Anglian windows for double glazing without consulting me after they had harassed us following the sales call. Upon reflection I decided not to go ahead with the windows. I cancelled 12 days after the contract has been signed and their surveyor had not been round yet. They are now billing us for 25% of the windows and that we are in breach of contract. Do I have any consumer rights? Please help..

Where was the order placed? In your home or at their showroom?
If it was in your home, over the phone or online then I believe you have 14 days to cancel. (assuming they notified you of your cancellation rights. If they didn't then the 14 day countdown starts AFTER they have notified you).

Ancient thread is ancient. My post above covers current legislation ... depending on HOW the order was placed.0 -

Your partner has taken the contract out. Why do you think YOU can cancel it?
You have no consumer rights.0 -

That is why I stated that unless there have been changes and I bow to your better knowledge :0)0 -
Is it still the case that the 14 day cancellation can be waived by the consumer provided that they sign to agree that the service can be started within this 14 day period?
If this is the case, I believe that you can still cancel but can be charged for work carried out but if the surveyor hasn't measured up yet, the actual manufacture can't have started so I can't see how they can legally charge for this.0 -

You are correct. That's why it's important for the OP to come back and confirm.

I agree wholeheartedly.
@FO ... that's a valid point. Only the OP's partner has any cancellation rights.0 -

If the retailer failed to give the required information about the right to cancel and any charges that would be incurred if work had already started (part l an n from Schedule 2 I believe) then the consumer can cancel for a full redund during the cancellation period. This applies even if the service has started within the 14 day cooling off period, and even if it is completed.0 -
I initially paid a 15% deposit for a bay window but realised the almost identical could be supplied for half the quote so tried to cancel 20 days after signing and paying the deposit but no further visit from Anglian to measure up. Nevertheless, I will it seems have to pay a further 10% to clear the contract despite not having being told about this before, it's in the printed detail. Still trying to find an escape from this but to no avail :[. The only good this is that I only asked for one bay window, my neighbours had their whole house done :-o1
