Movers quotes

I need to organise a small move in SE London (few miles away) - what's the best way to organise the move and get quotes?

Google tells me comparethemanandvan.co.uk has anyone used it?

I used the estimate/wizard on rightmove.co.uk and tells me around £1500! I only need to move a bed, small couch, table and 4 chair, tv and a desk... and some suitcases!
surely can't be that much!!

Thanks for any help!

  • I'm not near you, am in the Midlands but use a '2 man and van' to move my 3 bed house. He is charging me 200.00 and i have a fair bit of stuff and i can count on him as used several times in the past.

Definitely for the tiny amount of stuff you are moving, look local for 'man and van' ads in paper or shop windows...

Goal - by 2036 (14 yrs early) - in it for the long haul! paid £30 374.67 so far, 29.2% down, 70.8% to go!
  • Look in your local directory and get some quotes from local firms. Ask twitter as always helpful. Any recommendations from friends/people in the area?

I know your in London and prices seem to be from another planet, but we just paid a local SE firm £800 for a 4 bed house moving 2 miles. Full sized furniture van was full.
  • I used a transit van + driver + mate based in Brixton, £50 per hour*. PM me if you want his phone number.

In general - a good place to try is your nearest storage place for man&van fliers.

*weekday, dk whether the same evenings or weekends.
  • If I was quoted that high i'd be hiring a van and buying pizza and beer for a couple of mates :)

I know right!!! I thought the same! Given that most of the stuff is depreciated anyway, worth buying new one and get it delivered!

I hired a van for the day and did it myself with my OH (moved from 3rd floor flat to 4th floor flat few miles down the road, so wasn't easy!).

Took a whole day and all we paid for was £50.00 van hire, and petrol.
    Aqua £160.00 / EE £289.60
    Total debt = £449.60
