car parks by coventry uni?

Options
Seems to me they are very expensive, and the uni itself doesn't have one?
Anybody know of any cheap ones?
Thanks!

There are Park and Ride services around Coventry: presumably the idea is to encourage you to use those rather than taking your car into the centre.

  • If you go to the skydome there is a car park in the middle of the ring road... yu have o trn left when you get to the ice rink and it takes you under a road. £2.00 all day... I discovered this today and I have lived in Coventry for years! and Skate at the rink every week!!

That's great. How far would you say that is from the uni? Could it be walked?

if you don't have a particularly posh car, and are only at uni in the daytime, and are good at parallel parking, then vine street, canterbury street and alma street are residential streets very close to the uni with (as yet) no parking restrictions; well worth checking out before trying car parks. i drove to coventry uni for four years and never once paid to park.

vine street is about 2 minutes walk from the centre of the uni. there is also a free car park on the far end of canterbury street (the street where the big student halls are located).

if you try to use the residential streets, try going at the top of the hour, as students leaving lectures will be driving off and leaving spaces at around this time.

bear in mind tho, that the nearby streets are not in the most salubrious part of coventry (to be honest, i'm not sure there IS a salubrious part of coventry, but that's just me) so might not be the safest option after dark. after 6pm in general it is (or at least was) possible to park for free in the official uni department car parks (before 6pm you need a permit AND pay and display). it's worth checking out if this is still the case.

also, if you are only popping into uni for a few minutes, a number of the side streets on campus itself offer you between 30 mins and an hour free parking. be accurate tho, the wardens are ruthless...

    hope that helps :)
  • They also ticket these I think if they are there to long... Don't quote but I am sure I have seen some!!

Have used the £2.00 under the road one a few times when visiting Coventry, and this is the right end of town for me. Does anyone know if there any residential streets (e.g. the other side of the ringway) that might be free at that end of town?
  • When I worked in Alma Street I parked up the top of the hill, down the side of the Binley oak pub in Britannia Street - never had any problems.

The other side of the ring road from Moat Street car park (the one under the ring road), you can park in Queens Road for I think it's two hours, otherwise it's all residents parking round the bottom end of Earlsdon.

Uni staff car parks are over-subscribed because there is a half a$$ed 'green' policy in operation.

I walk everywhere - it's simpler and MSE!

  • Alternatively use the Park and Ride scheme from the Memorial Park. Secure parking a a shuttle bus into the City Centre.
