I need to register a domain name. The name is available in many formats but am choosing the .co.uk version.
Which is the cheapest site to buy the domain from?
Also, in a few months, I'll be wanting to add an option to purchase good through the site. At the moment, all I need is details and images in the site, with an option to buy via email or telephone as it's a start up business so need to see how the land lies before I jump in with both feet on a full ecommerce site.
Also, if possible, I'd like to have an email that is me@my site.co.uk IYSWIM.
Any tips anyone?

I use :-

But there are plenty of others.
Once you have your domain you can have whateveryouwant@mysite.co.uk !
except you can't - because https://www.mysite.co.uk is already taken !!0 -
I dont think the op actually wants "mysite" but is just suggesting that would be replaced with the URl the op would want.. etc"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Hi,
Most web hosting companies will give you a discount on the domain registration itself if you take one of their packages - the critical issue you need to be addressing and researching is the the hosting package itself and how flexible the hosting company is when it comes to upgrading the oackage for more features. A lot also depends on your own web skills or whether you'll be employing a thrid party to develop your site.
If you intend to develop an e-commerce site the hosting package will need to include a scripting language support (such as php or asp) and database functionality (eg Microsoft SQL server or MySQL) - again this depends on your own skill levels as a web developer...there are also a fair few "out of the box" instant e-commerce website packages available which if you are new to developing websites may be the route for you.
Most hosts will give you plenty of email addresses on the lines of myname@domain.co.uk etc. so that isn't really a major consideration...
You need to do your research on this thoroughly as a mistake in choosing the right hosting package now could be painful later...there's plenty of good advice out there so get googling!
Also, (sorry if this is putting you off!) but if you intend to sell goods over the net make sure you are familiar with the DSR(Distance Selling Regulations) : http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/resource_base/legal/distance-selling-regulations/
I'm afraid this all boils down to research, research research but if you feel you have a strong product then doing it right the first time could save you many pounds later. (I knew there was a moneysaving aspect to this somewhere!)
If you are in hurry to register the domain now (don't mention it here or on any other forum or someone will nick it!) then use a registration company such as 123 reg - you can always host the site elsewhere and point it to your site even though its hosted elsewhere, or transfer the domain to your hosting company at a later date.
Good luck with the new business venture!:j0
