Why don't you check out charity shops for new curtains, fabrics and lighting, you can pick up tester pots of paints for a couple of pounds and paint things a new colour or stencil walls, throws and cushions cosy up a place, or new handles for the draws can be cheap too.
Fairy lights are nice too, why not try freecycle.:D0 -

How about spend some time playing in the room. I've found that always helps, as if a child plays somewhere else (living room, playroom, etc) all the time there will be no reason to use the bedroom for anything else but sleeping. They need to get used to the idea that the bedroom is somewhere else to play.
Perhaps a cheap beanbag for reading on would be a good idea or a maybe a floor cushion.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
im not really at the age i 'play' with things as such , but i want my room to be organized and made comfy enough that i want to do my college work , read , write , watch films and relax in!
I know bedrooms should really be for sleeping and i have a laptop so i m sat downstairs a lot of the time with my mum and dad who i get on with so well! But i want my room to be my own space too! So that my mum can have some 'her time' too ya know?NanMias - cyber granddaughter!

A room can look so different with just a splash of another colour in there.
Maybe a new ceiling lampshade, bedside lampshade and throw all in matching colours would give it a bit of a boost.
Do you have any storage places for all your 'bits and bobs' like hair accessories, bracelets, beads etc? Pens, crayons, felt-tips. Those storage hanger things that go over your bedroom door are good as well - they can hold shoes, slippers as well as lots of other things.
Do you ever take friends upstairs to your room for chatting, listening to music, doing homework/studying, sharing clothes ideas?
Have you had a look at the Ikea website for ideas? You don't have to get stuff from there, but it's useful just for the ideas to see what your taste is developing into.
It's a bit difficult to suggest something as we don't know how old you are, or very much about you.

Hi Jess,
I think perhaps you need to try to start again from scratch.
My dd had the messiest room in our house stuffed full of well, 'stuff'. She went to uni in September and we had a massive clear out. It was difficult for her to get rid of some thngs as she's a hoarder (like me) but it had to be done as she needed to sort out what to take with her.
She told me afterwards that she loved her room here and what had been stopping her from clearing it before was that she felt completely overwhelmed by it. She considered her new room in halls to be a new start and the daughter who could barely find the bed under the mess when she lived here, now makes it a priority to make her bed every morning before her lectures and enjoys keeping her room tidy and takes pride in adding bits and pieces to her new 'home'.
Anyway, the upshot of my rambling is to suggest that you try to clear out as much as you can that you have grown out of (you sound as though you have a good relationship with your mum so I'm sure she'd be happy to give you a hand) and try to create a 'blank canvas' that you can stamp your personality on and gradually add little things that you like, that will over time make your room feel like 'home' and a place you want to spend time in.
