Help - My stop-!!!! is leaking!

Hi All,
Yesterday I noticed that my internal stop-!!!! is leaking from the bit that turns meets the nut.
Does anyone know how I can stop the leak without shutting off the water supply?
I live in an apartment complex, so shutting off the water supply to everyone in order to replace the tap is difficult.
Secondly, now that my floorboard is damp, is there any way that I can hasten the drying process or prevent rot/mould?
Thanks,
Pete.

you could get the water turned off very late at night and get it replaced pronto, thats just a suggestion as these are a nigthmare to replace even on houses.
we had kind of the same problem, but ours seized up badly.0 -
As a very temporary fix, have you tried turning the stop ccck so that it closes, the leak might stop. Obviously this isnt the complete answer but if it works it would allow you to dry out the floorboard whilst you obtain professional help. I'm thinking more overnight and when you dont need running cold water.
You dont describe the size of the leak, if its small, wrap a tea towel round it and replace when necessary.0 -
Hi All,
Yesterday I noticed that my internal stop-!!!! is leaking from the bit that turns meets the nut.
Shut of the stopcock, completely undo the packing gland nut and lift up towards the handle, place P.T.F.E. tape evenly round the spindle between nut and stopcock about four or five times clock wise and , re-do nut up reasonably tight (Pushing P.T.F.E. tape into packing gland), Job done.

Thank you all!
The leak is small, about a drip every 30 sec. I think I will take rockin_plumber's advice after I figure out what he means by "packing gland nut" (I am assuming it is the nut immediately behind the handle).
