Narrow boat hire

South Pennine ring which would take around 14 days, or the North Pennine ring which would take around 21 days.

What a wonderful piece of misrepresentation .
What about the Rings that are done in a week ?

The OP did not give a time scale and MANY hire for a week.

heading in one direction for a couple of days, turning round and heading back again.

Seeing the same sights, visiting the same places .......boring.
But if you can only manage 4 days , I hope you have good weather, barging in the rain is not such fun.
Come back afterwards and request a week, on a ring .

I'm not sure why you have a chip on your shoulder, but to clarify I'm not aware of any that can be done in that timescale in the specific area that the OP is looking at. Rather than just saying that there are shorter rings, I'm sure it would help the OP to say where those particular rings are.

I have taken boats from the area where I live for a relatovely short time and gone in a straight line, turned and come back to where I started from. Stopping at different places on the way there as to the way back, personally I found it very enjoyable but then I like the whole peacefulness of cruising in general. I certainly didn't get bored because I was not doing a ring.

Are we reading the same thread? I'm well aware of the 4 counties ring, living on the T&M canal myself. But the OP is looking for something much further north - Leeds/Liverpool canal. I genuinely am not aware of any short rings in that area, but happy to be corrected.

I replied to a 'suggestion that all rings took 14 days plus.

Last summer we were walking along the Leeds Liverpool and as a boat was approaching decided to watch it go through the locks.

They were having real trouble unlocking the mechanism for the lock paddles so I offered some help.

We started chatting and they were a family group who had hired the boat for three days. They had left Leeds at 10am that morning, this was mid afternoon and they had done about 3 miles, they found out there are a lot of locks as you leave Leeds!

They were trying to get to Rodley which is about 6 miles from Leeds. Based on this Leeds to Saltaire may be a sensible target over two days.

Don't worry about it. Wherever you choose to hire from will be able to give you some pointers as to what route to take. If you enjoy it and decide you want to do a slightly longer break next time, you can research into various rings that are available if you'd prefer to do a circular route.
