Start Up Order and Timings

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.

I recall that some time last year I ran a utility which showed me a log of all the programs etc. that loaded during startup with details of how long each one took to load and, I think, the resources they needed.

For the life of me I can't remember whether this was some utility I downloaded or whether it was something available from within windows via the command line. Can anyone help please?

Autoruns by Microsoft will show you what loads:

If your looking for something that does a pretty graph of your boot processes against load time then you could try this

A word of warning with Autoruns, be careful and do your Google research well before disabling certain start up processes as you could end up with an unbootable system.

msconfig is the in-built application that tells you the basic info about what starts up with Windows etc.

I've always found it much easier to look at the registry keys where startup programs are stored. There's one for the currently logged in user, and one that applies to all users of the machine.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
