Friday 20th Feb. What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important

Thanks BB! No etiquette as far as I am aware. But we normally add a smiley face to the title which you can do by looking underneath the text box. It just makes the thread stand out more.

    How are you feeling today?

  • Thanks Bobarella I glad no toes have been trod on. Good tip about the smiley face, I'll try to remember that if I ever start the thread in the future.

Well I am weary today. My son has a cold. The last two nights hes been bobbing in and out of our room as he just cant settle. I've tried getting him to inhale vicks in a boiling water bowl with the old towel over head trick. I've tried rubbing his back and chest with vicks. Still snuffly. Then he's up again by 6.
Poor old husband is literally shatterd from the work he is doing at the business place to get it ready again. Hes an office bod by trade but he is the handiest non tradesman I know. The work he is doing is saving us around £8,000 which is how much we were underinsured by. I feel so grateful to him its unbelievable. He was asleep on the sofa before 10 last night bless him.
Then theres me. I have so many worries running through my head at the moment all to do with whether the business will take again after such a long break. We've worked so very hard these past months to get a working budget in place, pay down debt, & try to just keep going. Im so scared what will happen once I am responsible for earning all my own money again...
    Gah.
    Actions I have done already
    1) Ring EON and pay a portion of the business electricity bill. I have 1 more payment after this one, next month. And then I am free of the backlog.
    2) Have made husband a packed lunch to take to work.
    3) Have been to Mr Ts to get MORE food. God this half term is draining my pocket. How is it just by all of us being around for a week the food is taking a hammering? Theoretically nothing is different as son and OH take packed lunches anyway, but I cant stay on top of it.
    4) Found 1p on way back from Mr T
    5) Checked both sets of banking
    6) Husband has borrowed our friends car, which will save us money renting from zipcar for all the odd trips he is having to do to DIY shops this week. Its very kind of them.
    7) Thought of dinner for tonight. Im doing rice & veg with roast pork mixed in.
    8) Have a little friend coming over for son in about 20 mins so that will be a cheap morning at home for us all. Shes staying to lunch.
    9) No washing on today so thats saving the electricity.
    10) I used a 30p coupon in Mr T for a pack of salami I bought
    11) Uploaded my reciept to Checkoutsmart for the free 1p reward.

    Have a good friday all.
    Bob

  • Bob - sorry to hear you've got a lot on your mind on the moment. I hope things go well and your business takes off again.

Completely agree it does seam cost more during the holidays :-|

It's nice having caring friends. I don't drive but my friend and boyfriend have included in me in free days out by using both of the cars to fit everyone in. They do try and look after me during these hard time. They do a lot for me. Years back when she came back from working in Spain, she had no home, no job etc I let her live with me for free and fed her most of the time. Didn't really cost me anything extra, just my 25% discount of council tax. When your young you think nothing of that amount of cash. I never felt she took advantage, just going through hard times and plus she had no family around her (originally from Scotland) that's why she helps me as much as she can, even though she struggles a little herself. It nice to know kindest can be rewarded

    Xx

    - pick up some potatoes and milk whilst out in friends car(lsd) that will see me through til next wed and won't have to go to town
    - do daughters holiday book - hour or so entertainment
    - start working out next weeks budget, need to scrap £38 to top up bill money
    - Google and read up about control panel and learn how to put different setting on it. Could do with it turning off after a hour as I often forget. Hopefully this will help reduce the amount I pay.
    - make use of free calls and catch up with someone
    - watch a film this evening on netflicks with free trail
    - sort through post and put all appointments on calendar (check none clash)

    Hello :j

Thanks for starting the thread BB :)

    Done so far:
Been to sales unit to tidy up - nothing noticeable seems to have gone today, but I put a few new things in to keep it looking fresh :)
Been for medical appointment and picked up my prescription. I get them free now. About the only advantage I have discovered so far of being 60+. It seems strange though because I have paid since I was 16.
Done a small shop at Lidls
Tried rest of unwanted books on Zapper, and can't get up to £10 worth that they will accept as minimum (prices are VERY low:(), so they will probably have to wait for the car boot season.
Washing out on line in the hope it dries a bit - it isn't t raining, and is blowing about a little bit, so fingers crossed.

    Still to do:
Update GC thread and signature with new totals after Lidl shop. Still under budget :)
Scrambled eggs for lunch, using own chickens' eggs
Go to an auction viewing with OH after lunch
Make a quiche, to use up lurking bits in the fridge
Jacket potatoes, tuna mayo and salad for supper tonight
Heating off, but will light the wood burner later

Bob, hope the relaunch of your business goes well. Sorry to hear that you are a bit stressed about it at the moment :(

Jojo, it is so nice that you and your friend are there for each other when things are tough :)

Right, OH has just appeared, so I had better do lunch.
  • Good afternoon, bit late checking in today.

Hope the day improves for people having bad/poorly/stressy times. Got builders doing up the block where the shop is, they are right outside at present and the noise of their machinery has given me a right headache...my planned NSD was ruined as I had to run to Tesco Express to grab some painkillers. Got to pick up some kitty food and biccies anyway.

    Today's list:

    Walk to and fro
    Check one poll,etc
    Shopwise, make a promotional poster
    B/L/D from stores.
Check for YS bargains whilst picking up kitty food
    Washer on tonight
Get rid of this blummin' headache

    Have a good day, everyone

MM - I sympathise entirely, the house next door to us is under development at the moment, having been a wreck for 3 years. The developers have been in since November. We have hair line cracks in the plaster in every room in the house as they have literally knocked ten bells out of the old place. I dont begrudge progress, but it is very trying having the noise all day. Cant wait till they are done! Hope your head improves.
