not updating address after property purchase - will it cause problems

hello all

just wondering if you can help me. have completed on a property purchase however will be doing work on it for a few months and i am also going away for work for around 3-4 weeks.

Therefore as I do not want post going to an unoccupied property for 3-4 months, i have not updated my address with my other banks/phone company etc (and left them all at my parents address where i lived prior to purchase plus where will be staying whilst work is being done on new home).

Will this cause any problems in the meantime credit report wise as only thing that will be registered to the new address is the mortgage and a bank account that i also have with the mortgage co (as this was changed automatically).

Also how do I ensure that the new address account shows on my credit reports - will it automatically appear as a linked address?

When you move it impacts credit short term as lenders want to see a history of payments at a new address. It may impact you in the short term everyone moves. If you aren't on the electoral roll at your given current address is a big negative.

Maybe put your new address get on the ER there and redirect the mail while at your parents.
  • If you don't update files immediately.

I was in a similar position. Lived with family and didn't change address for about 2 months after I completed, as I wanted to first get a credit card that I was too scared to apply for during the mortgage process, for fear of breaching the "applying for new credit" rules. not changing my address honestly didn't seem to make a difference, even with the bank who had given my mortgage, as they kept sending me mail to my old family address, until I formally notified them to change it.

I was also never on the electoral roll at my old family home, but I still managed to get a mortgage, and other forms of credit - this might be to do with the length of time I was there (about 8 years). I think you'll be fine OP, if you don't update the address until you're ready to... just don't leave it too long! :)
