O/S Daily Friday 20th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, very wet and air still feels damp this morning. Horrible day yesterday started raining in the morning and continued right into the afternoon. I'd put a big line of washing on the line before I went out and by the time I got back it was raining so it was all dripping on the line. Put it in the TD instead.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will be waking him before I go out as he has homework still to do.

Dinner last night was HM spag bol, was eaten and enjoyed by us all. DS2 got back from his day out about 10 minutes before it was served. Tonight will be something easy with chips for the menfolk and jacket potato/salad for me.

Course was good yesterday, but a bit scary as the likeness to where my mum’s health is so similar – no-one else in the family seems to want to do anything, her included so I will keep out of it. I’m past all the politics and I’ve always been the “black sheep” and so just keep myself to myself and do my best for my DH and boys. (Past events have put me to this point). I still take the boys to visit them as I don’t believe that it’s my right to stop my boys having a relationship with them although my priority is always the boys.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, I got all the washing, drying and ironing done, although there’s some more in the basket this morning – will get that going shortly. Ran the hoover over, although didn’t do anywhere near a proper clean but it’s ok. This morning I have the normal chores to do, go to town, visit the bank, do the food shopping. I’m really hoping today to get some sort of baking/cooking done later.

Have a good Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    nmlc x

  • Morning all. Very dark still so hard to decide what it's going to be like. Forecast promises sun and showers.

It's the calm before the storm here. The 3 DGDs are all still asleep so creeping around quietly. They were all later to bed last night so hopeful they will have a lie in!

As of last night they all thought it would be a good idea to go to McDonalds for lunch! I am hoping I can change their minds!! We promised a day out but exactly where is dependent on the weather! Roll on when we are back to picnic weather, it's cheaper! They are back at school Monday thank goodness.

I am hoping for good weather over the weekend, then I can get all their bedding and onesies washed and hung out, ready for next time! It's not very good drying in our back garden just yet. We are surrounded by tall fences and conifers which block the sun till it gets higher in the sky.

Have a good day all. x

Sympathy nmic there's nothing worse than family problems, I remember what I went through over my mum's last years. I could have run away at some points I was torn so many ways.

nmlc, it's always difficult with families. I don't particularly like my late DHs Mum but I have always taken my children to visit them, just drop them off at the door and then picked them up later without actually seeing anyone. They live 250 miles from us so sometimes a bit difficult but now they are old enough to see them when they please.

Woke up early so the ironing is all done and the washing is on the airers, DW emptied and hm soup for my lunch. DD is off out tonight so I can please myself for tea. DD has gone to the passport office, her appointment is at 9. Her passport has bubbled at the photo which is a bit annoying as she will have to pay for a new one.

Hope you all enjoy Friday, take care. XX

    Hi all,

    Thought I,d pop in :)

We,ve been busy with house re furb, kitchen is nearly done, but DH is now back at work, so the finishing off bits are being done in the evenings. Still no hob, as they delivered the wrong one, fingers crossed will be here Monday.

I have been amazed how much we have spent on convenience food - I must have spent at least double our normal amount without the use of the kitchen - glad to be 'back to normal' ish....

I,ve Kondo,d loads, even some very loved but too big furniture. It has been uplifting to see the house come to life.

Sorry to read that some of you are poorly, and so sad to hear that some of you have lost loved ones - I hope things are as good as they can be under the circumstances x

Tipping with rain here, will do some laundry, and fish through the freezer for inspiration for meal plans.

    Happy Friday everyone x

Molly. I hope you are coping ok, not seen you on here for a while.
LW, do you have any furry friends staying at the moment?
It's damp here today so I'll stay in as much as possible, I'm dropping hubby off at 9:30 & have a visitor due at 10 :30.
I finished all of DD's mending yesterday so that can go back tomorrow when we pick up one of the DGD's for a visit. She want's to go to Hobbycraft, that's my girl!
nmlc, my ex MIL was really nasty to me, but she was a lovely grandma to my kids, she's now really nasty to my ex's 2nd wife & holds me up as a paragon of virtue & the best thing since sliced bread.
I'm hoping to do some dressmaking today using one of the lovely patterns that Norfolk Saver sent me, I just can't decide which one.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning All,

Hope everyone is well, it appears to be a bright morning so i am hopeful it stays that way.

My plans for today include my usual daily and weekly jobs, filling up the bird feeders, hopefully a bit of time spend crocheting.

Got the shopping delivery later tonight i love online grocery shopping but i hate putting it all away but DH will be around to help.

Hope everyone has a good, safe and productive day.

    Morning everyone.

Looks like it's been a hailstorm overnight as there are patches of white stuff in corners of the back garden. Fields are clear, and so is the sky.

The joiner finally changed the front door lock yesterday though the work needed the door to be trimmed which then allowed the wind back through. So I did a dash to the hardware shop in town to buy the white foam sticky stuff and filled the gaps. Perfect! No more draughts.

I eventually got to the post office yesterday to send of two parcels which had been lying on the back seat of my car for a couple of weeks. And I sat and went through every single piece of paper in the house and culled loads. Old insurance documents, out of date warranties and so on. There will be a small but lovely bonfire sometime over the weekend.

Food will be more structured this weekend, just for a change. There is a lasagne in the fridge along with some bolognaise sauce, chicken keivs and piece of belly pork. Dwindling stocks of ale and wine have been replenished.

I hope everyone has some Friday fun.
  • Good Morning everyone, it's dry here at the moment after an extremely wet afternoon and night, we had more than an inch of rain so everywhere is soggy this morning.

I have my lovely elder DD staying for a couple of days and the poorly Olaf Piggy is home for a while too and has been eating his little head off this morning but it's taking him a long time to chew everything so I think he's still got sore cheeks poor love. We are having Kofta Curry from my new slowcooker book for supper this evening as that's what she fancied and we're going to skype with DD2 and that Zebra later on today which will be lovely. Hope that you are all well and happy and that you all have a really nice day, Lyn xxx.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
