Alpine flowers

Anyone with a recommendation? My wife has always wanted to see alpine meadows with the spring flowers in bloom, and now she is retired and not in great health it seems like a good time to knock a few items off the bucket list. I have done a bit of research, and it seems that late June is a good time, so I have booked the last two weeks of June off work. But where to aim for? We have been to Switzerland (although either late summer or winter, never spring) and we know Italy quite well. Just looking for recommendations as to the general areas to head for. We'll be in our own car and sorting out accommodation along the way. I'm thinking of N Italy, Switzerland or Austria, but I haven't a clue about the exact areas to look at. Nice scenery and fresh air good, crowds and traffic bad. Any suggestions based on personal experience would be very welcome.

Of those three countries I'd pick Austria every time. It's nearly 20 years since I was there but Mayrhofen was really nice, and I'm sure there will be flower meadows around the area.

Another vote for Austria here. I love the country and the people are very welcoming too.

If you want Alpine scenery, with a good, regular bus service between towns, it's worth looking at the area between Kitzbuhl, St. Johann and Kufstein. Personally, I love Ellmau.

For closer to Salzburg, it's worth looking at Kuchl, or you could go for the Salzkammergut (lake district) area with beautiful lake side towns such as St. Wolfgang.

Have a good browse and see what takes your fancy.

Good recommendations, thank you both. I have never been to Austria, and my wife was last there on a skiing holiday about 50 years ago, so it's pretty much new territory for both of us.

I think after reading this we will probably concentrate on Austria, rather than make it a tour through France, Switzerland and possibly Italy, which would have meant a lot of driving and less sightseeing. Also, Austria means a different route for us, which will be a nice change. Belgium/Germany/Bavaria rather than the usual France route.

I will take the names you have given me and do some more research. Cheers!
