No, you would not go to prison. I do suggest that you seek some expert help (there might be suggestions on the Debt-Free Wannabe board) and maybe get them to write a letter for you to the tax people.

There is a tax charity called TaxAid who should be able to help you. Their website is https://www.taxaid.org.uk. You can email them or phone their helpline. If you email them, let them know you are struggling with your mental health, there are special HMRC processes for dealing with situations like this and if TaxAid know they can ensure they are used to your benefit.

From a post last year you state you were running your own online business so they can't claim you were AWOL if they hadn't picked up on the previous debt when you were paying current taxes....Maybe an error on their behalf?
