Changing tubes at tube stations

Leicester square is just around the corner, and if you are not familiar with tubes you will want to remember where Leicester square is, as Covent garden tube is exit only for the moment. It literally is only a road away from Leicester square tube.
There is quite a few stairs and walking between the northern line and piccadilly line if I remember rightly. Covent Garden is all steps. You'll definitely be better off with getting off at Leicester Sq.
I work in London every day, so should be good with tubes. I just prefer it out in the burbs since I moved out there and don't tend to venture into London on my days off.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Just to complicate things, maybe I should change at Kings Cross to get on the ???? line (haven't looked it up yet, but there must be one to Covent Garden) to Covent Garden.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

piccadilly line from Kings cross but quite a walk between some lines at Kings cross, narrow tunnels and escalatorsEx forum ambassador

Indeed, I was getting confused. Thought Covent Garden was near that Trocodero place (is it still called that?). Used to go into London a lot as a teenager, but not now!Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

One thing about Leicester Square station, - it's got about 5 exits!! So you'd need to know which one to take (or be able to orientate yourself once you get up to street level)
It's easily walkable but if you don't know where you're going, getting off at Covent Garden might be easier.0 -
When I used to take the buggy into London or have a child in a carrier, I used to use this website quite a bit - http://www.directenquiries.com. If you search for the station and click on the tab for Access Information, it usually gives you access info for every possible way you might want to use the station e.g. it might tell you that to get from Platform 1 to the entrance there is a 10m walk, a set of stairs with 24 steps, a 15m walk and then an escalator. It's a lot of info, maybe too much! The TFL journey planner gives you simpler info now too when you search for a journey - right at the bottom you can click Accessibility Details for the total walking time, how many sets of stairs up/down etc.0

Don't know what direction you are going in but it's a quick stroll from Charing Cross station/Charing Cross tube.
If you are on a direct tube line or coming into that train station, just head up the Strand and duck up left a few hundred yards down as the lanes from the Strand lead into the Plaza.
The Strand has broad pavements so it's not so crushing an experience as trying to walk from Leicester Square and I think it's a similar distance.
Mind you, Covent Garden tube itself is the closest one to the square itself.0 -
Get off at Leicester Sq. Covent Garden is less than 5 min walk and avoids the hassle of waiting for the very slow lifts at Covent Garden station.Come on sucker lick my battery0

Give your kids the choice- walk from Leicester square or climb the 193 steps out of Covent garden tube station!
I didn't know about the steps until I got off the tube.
