Keyless entry - 2012 megane

I'm having an odd problem that seems to be confusing the dealer.

My renault megane is playing up with it's keyless entry system, not every week but it is a real concern when it does happen.

My main concern is when returning to the car in the morning, the car is already unlocked and sometimes the car won't automatically unlock unless you press the remote.

Speaking to the main dealer, they tell me that they have had no other reports of this (a google search seems to collaborate this) and to make sure that i'm not keeping the key fob and a mobile phone in the same pocket.

So I did that, and for a few weeks no issue, then I noticed it happen again.

Just to make sure that it wasn't me, I also made sure that it was locking every night, and that there was nothing in my pockets that was pressing the button for me.
Just to be sure I changed the battery in the remote for good measure.

Yet it keeps happening, Renault have looked at it, but could not replicate the fault.

...Not sure what to do next?

Not sure how the renault system is, if mine was already unlocked you would have to be very close with the key in presence.

A Renault with weird electrical problems? You do surprise me!


Unfortunately I have no experience of later Meganes but a colleague had a Laguna on a 10 plate which had a habit of unlocking itself. Only seemed to happen after it'd rained, so he (and Renault) put it down to water ingress - unfortunately they never found out from where and to where, but he part-exchanged it for a 530D about a year ago.

Had a 59 Scenic, same thing. The system worked fine 95% of the time, and i know it locked everytime. But unlocked overnight. No idea why.

Just to add more details..

No other issue with the car, it's been a great family run about.

The keyless system, needs to have the key close enough and the sensor behind the handle activated.
Most of the time this is perfect, but yes I get to the car some mornings and the car is already unlocked, or will not unlock without the remote.

I'd be kicking up a fuss here. If you get back to it in the morning and it's unlocked, does this mean it has been unlocked all night? That's a big security issue right there. If the car was stolen, would the insurance pay out if they found out that you knew it was regularly unlocking itself and hadn't sorted the problem out? (I know my house insurance is null and void for theft if I leave a door unlocked while I am away from the house.)


If it's still under warranty (2012, it may be) I would be back to the dealer and demand it is fixed. Never mind 'no other reports' or 'sorry, we can't replicate it'. It's wrong, and it needs putting right. If it's in warranty, it's up to them. If not, you've got a headache.
