How about for dupes, we use the expired button to get rid of the post instead of giving the BGs and forumites more work with merge requests?
I can see no real advantage in merging if the comp is already on the board.
Just a suggestion.
Yeah, the problem is if I put the green tick on the duped post, which later to be expired as you suggest. Sometime later I saw orignal post without my green tick, So I re-enter from there....Ouch! (I think only reason to merge is to avoid this to be happen)
Also who is check if it is actual duped post or not, as not want many posts went expired due to error as they may are actual seperate comps.

Ah yes, I didn't think of thatTOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

I would always ask Dalkirst to do the job and it was always done efficiently and without any problem.
Dalkirst did and as far as I am aware always does a splendid job well as long as I have been around anyway.

It would be good to have admins, or at least someone who can edit titles and stuff like that.
I'd be up for doing it, don't have much time at the moment but from next month I start a new job, so I'll have loads of time.0 -

He may be on holiday, ill or 1 of many other things. I was just saying that when I have have asked for a merge I have always used dalkirst and it has always been done efficiently so I seen it as a little unfair that he was singled out and named and wanted to add my praise for the work he has done voluntarily for so long.0 -

As per my opening postYes I know the board guides don't get paid and do the best they can when they can, but surely as this is one of the busiest forums on MSE wouldn't it be a good idea to have more dedicated board guides that just look after this one forum to take the strain off Glad & Dalkirst
As there are only 2 board guides, and 1 of them has long periods offline - then as per my post "More dedicated board guides needed on this forum"
All the comps for 02/03 & 03/03 are still on the main boards - many merges go unmerged (the one I mentioned in the opening post went 20 days without ever being merged, it then ended and went into Game Over) - a little too much work for the 1 remaining board guide that logs on dailyYes, I know there is no "R" in the word dream in my username - it was setup in memory of my grandson :A0 -

The post which I was originally referring too seems to have been deleted now but it mentioned dalkirst not being around often and seemed to suggest he was not efficient enough so I just added my bit for him. I do agree with what you are saying and with it being such a busy board then 2 BGs does not really seem to be enough especially when the 2 we have will need breaks or may for some reason need to take long periods away which will leave us with just the 1 or even none at some periods.0 -
there were & still are plenty afaik quite a few of
members/peeps willing to help out if needed,
although it was not mentioned again for a while after
