I'm not very up on the technical side of things but if there is anything we users can do to help on an "as and when" basis I'd be glad to do my bit. ( I've got into the habit of clicking the expired button when I notice one for example)
On MSE comps they are

Board Guides are there to help the boards run smoothly. They can move and close threads on the particular boards they cover, but we don't ask them to watch specific threads as that would be moderating.
For legal reasons we don’t have moderators or moderate the forum, but we use a "reporting" system instead. Board Guides don't see reports.0 -

which is a shame as some of the reports are a little over zealous
extra board guides would be good for bulk clearing of old comps that have to be expired - surely another person clicking would keep it all a bit tidier0 -

hi here..
Board Guide Role Description
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/103395
This section expands on what the Board Guides have been asked to do. Please read this in conjunction with The Rules before posting.
:: SUMMARISED JOB DESCRIPTION- Keep threads on topic (including moving non-MoneySaving related discussions to Discussion Time/MoneySaversArms)
- Point site users to relevant main site articles
- Sticky threads considered good MoneySaving to the top of the board
- Merge/link together duplicate threads
- Help newbies find their way around
- Delete spam and report the poster to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com
- Lock/delete contentious threads if no member of the Forum Team is available and report to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com
The aim is to help newbies, making sure there aren't lots of different posts on the same thing and guiding people in the right direction. That means where someone says “I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find the information” posting links to the relevant articles/sections on the main site or pointing them to the links at the top of discussion boards.
Where topics have been posted more than once they have been asked to merge/link to each of them where appropriate to help forum users find the information they need.
When moving a thread if it would cause confusion Board Guides are asked to leave a re-direct. Re-directs should be left on the board for 7 days after the thread is moved. Threads should be moved if they’re obviously disturbing the flow of the board and/or are not likely to get a big response where they are.
Where a thread has become contentious Board Guides have been asked to either report or lock and report it so a member of the Forum Team can see it and take appropriate action.
:: What a Board Guide isn't
Board Guides are not moderators. They don’t deal with contentious/illegal issues - that's the Forum Team’s job.

They all have more than one board, last time they were looking you had to do 3.0 -
Can I just add to this because I seen a previous comment about Dalkirst not logging in too reguarly that I when i had more time I use to ask for a lot of dupes to be merged that others had spotted and for whatever reason I expect because they didn't know how to. I would always ask Dalkirst to do the job and it was always done efficiently and without any problem.
Dalkirst did and as far as I am aware always does a splendid job well as long as I have been around anyway.0 -
Thanks for interesting posts about BG as I hardly read chat corner
Sometime noticed some comps have not yet merge together, even they had been posted to BGs.
I do not think it's only down to number of BGs, their availability times to do the tasks as the system/format may need considering to look in as well as some of threads where poster mentioned 'Here DUPE!' with the link (urls), leave it to there & not know how to inform BGs, I am one of them, as I like to see simpler way to do that, if that is possible to create a magic attention button to sent the post to BGs to approvel the merge or not?
It's end of the thread and to waiting for comper/s to do it again to be disqualified.
[Warning] Dead duped thread will catch one of us one day! :money::shocked:
Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey.... :A0 -
How about for dupes, we use the expired button to get rid of the post instead of giving the BGs and forumites more work with merge requests?
I can see no real advantage in merging if the comp is already on the board.
Just a suggestion.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

Apart from anything else it should only be used for expired competitions (there is a post about it somewhere).0
