Plastering/Making good around radiator pipes

Had a new radiator fitted in place of existing. The pipes are buries in a dot and dab wall between the plaster board and breeze block.

Some pipe work alteration was needed so a small amount of plasterboard was cut out.

Now I can make good covering the pipework by adding small piece of plasterboard and plastering over but where the pipework comes out of wall at 90 degrees to enter the radiator valve, what is the best method.

Plaster up to the pipework? Will it not crack? I was thinking of wrapping small strip of insulation tape where the plaster will touch the copper. As the copper will be painted white you shouldn't notice.

Is there any better way??
