Wife's flight ticket was cancelled without warning...

My wife had informed them about the unnecessary outbound flight to ask if it could be refunded (a little optimistic I know!). Obviously, they said this was not possible as the reservation was non-refundable. This I can understand completely. However, they failed to mention that her return flight would also be cancelled too. Whats more, when we spoke to an agent from the airline, they claim the return flight could have easily been re-instated if the travel agency had only registered her as a 'no-show'.
It sounds as if you could have a valid claim against the travel agent: at the very least they should have told you that what you planned to do would not work, and they could have taken simple action to save the day for you.
Does anyone know whether a travel agent has a duty of care in this regard?0 -

First of all we'd need to understand exactly what happened. Certainly on reading of OPs post is that they bought first and then fired off an email to the travel agent saying about not needing part of the flight. We as of yet dont know if the agent ever received it.
Secondly it would be important to know where the agent is based. When we go to see family in south america we always use a travel agent based there as its much cheaper than here. I dont know if the same is true for Columbia or if the OP used a web based agency that could well be USA based or such. Obviously if its outside the UK then consumer protection may well be lower than it is here and even if it isnt then the international aspect may make any action not cost effective etc.0 -
Ryanair are point to point only and only sell single tickets so there isn't any flight coupons that can be used out of sequence.theonlywayisup wrote: »Just to add to the above, you may be eligible for taxes refund, but you need to check the T&C. Not all airlines prohibit flight coupons to be used in the wrong order or incomplete but most do.
From memory Ryanair allows part journey usage but I'm know you won't have used them. My point being, check the T&C.
And unless you are buying an expensive ticket I don't know any airline that will allow you to use tickets out of sequence.0 -
