exchange with no receipt

I understand that you can exchange an item without a receipt if you have another proof of purchase, such as a bank statement.

I wonder though how this works if you bought more than one item on that statement?

I can't find my receipt for a pair of trainers I bought at sports direct. I bought some running socks and some other things at the same time, so my bank statement is showing a higher value than the shoes alone obviously.

Is this still ok to get an exchange on them?

I'd like to clarify that they are faulty shoes. The padding in the ankle support has got all mashed up and out of shape after only wearing them once.

Sports Direct- a company that is completely unaware of UK consumer law.

OP, when you do go back can I please urge you to be clear when talking to them, you don't want an exchange (that implies a change of mind which they don't have to agree to ) tell them you want a refund for faulty goods- but you can then magnanimously accept a new pair instead.

Thanks soolin, that's really helpful advice. I would not have thought of that and possibly walked into a trap!

I have now found the receipt. It was at a relative house from when I stayed with them. They have scanned it to me. Will that be good enough proof or do I ask them to post it to me?
