The idea of the wheel brace was to make it visible. In the early hours (don't know if there are streetlights) it may not be entirely obvious the car has that fitted. The wheel brace is quite 'in your face'.

Yes, I agree, but the steering wheel lock I have does have a flashing light.

I have never used a wheel brace, but I would assume it is quite bulky to use and if it's raining I would have thought it would be quite messy.

I have read mixed messages about this and although I agree to a point and spoke to the police about this and they did that if the keys aren't immediately or very quickly found they will leave anyway as car on drive usually means owner is in. Usually opportunists as most people leave car keys by their front door.

once they are in, the aim should be to get them out as soon as possible.

Hoping they get bored looking for the keys is an option, but not one I would take for the sake of a car, stealing the car or confronting someone in the house is hardly comparable.

In your case, they seem to have went to a lot of trouble getting in, and only left when disturbed, what if someone walked in on them!

I really can not see how hiding the keys can ever be a sensible option.
  • Depends how much you want to spend. With the alarm you can also set to part arm so you can have down stairs on while your in bed so will trigger alarm if they break in while your sleeping. A couple of things you can add to a alarm system but may be over the top is a dna spray system that sprays anyone who triggers it and cant be washed off for a few weeks so they can be identified to the scene, also sound bomb that disorientates due to the sound and volume, also smoke screens that fills the room up with thick smoke so they cant see anything
  • If you have intruders via the back garden, some alarm mines may send them away

OP, I know how you feel, we were also burgled recently, although weren't home when it happened. In our case they also got in through the back (patio doors and ground floor bathroom window). They apparently went to considerable trouble to get to us as we have no rear access from the street and they would have had to go through several neighbouring gardens to get to ours. It's horrible feeling you've been targeted - in our case we think it was because we were new to the neighbourhood.

We have been recommended by the police and others to look at installing an alarm and motion sensitive lighting; we are also getting more secure locks installed on the p atio doors. However, the advice seems to be that if burglars really want to get in, they'll find a way. I know that's not very comforting! We are in the process of completing the insurance claim to replace all the stuff that was stolen and I am so worried that they're going to come back and take it all over again.
