How to transfer one direct debit

Maybe I'm not thinking clearly here, but before I get involved in expensive telephone calls to query this, can anyone explain the following:

I want to transfer my National Lottery direct debit from one of my current accounts to another. I'm not opening a new bank account, or switching my account - just moving one direct debit.

Lottery website says 'contact your bank'. I e-mailed to query and received reply to contact my bank to arrange this. Surely this is done by the company involved, not the bank?

Agree, it is stupid to suggest the bank could change the DD. If I were you, I would, on the lottery website

1. cancel the existing DD
2. set up a new DD

Just to be on the safe side, also cancel the old DD on your old account.

That should do the trick.

Thanks Colsten. Even this turned into a complicated process, but can see the way forward. When I selected 'cancel direct debit', it wiped all my pay slips with effect from the end of the current DD payment.

I then tried to set up a new payslip and selected DD payments, only to be told that they were still cancelling my old DD and I couldn't set up new one until 10 March, the end of the current one.

No problem though, I'll try again then.

Have moved individual DDs in the past with other companies, but has always been straightforward.
