Can't Connect to Wifi in Bedroom - Any possible solutions?

Hello all. :)

We've just moved into a 1960s bungalow. We have the router set up in the lounge but we're unable to get a wifi signal in one of the bedrooms. The bedroom isn't that far away from the lounge so we're not sure why.

Does anyone have any possible solutions, please? I've looked at Wifi extenders but I'm baffled by them all!

Thank you in advance.

All depends what equipment you have. I used to live in a 3 story house and the router was on the ground floor. The best thing I found was http://www.linksys.com/en-mea/products/powerline/PLWK400

You basically plug them into the mains. connect your router to one then plug the other into a mains socket in your bedroom. Will be a little to set them up but full instructions are always included

The internet signal travels through the mains wiring in your house so no need for extra cables and gets the strongest signal you can in your bedroom. Wifi extenders tend to loose some of the speed (some I understand can loose upto 50%). These however, I never experienced any loss

Most likely another router or AP using the same channel... Maybe the neighbours?

Get into the router settings and try channels 1, 6 and 11, see if any of those are any better. Of course this could be a waste of time if your neighbours (like mine) turn their router on/off everyday, as they'll be swapping channels all the time.

The reasons why you can't get a Wi-Fi signal will be due to interference with other wireless kit in the area, something in the construction of the building isn't letting the signal through or a bit of both.

Check for other wireless networks in the area and if necessary change the channel on your router to a less used one. If that doesn't help then homeplugs are a good option.

And/or if it has external aerials, try tweaking their position. (I used to find that could make a big difference with some wifi routers).

And as above, check what channel it is set to. (Use inSSIDer to see what channels are busy/quiet, then set your router to use a quiet one).

My sister had similar problem and it was resolved by requesting a more powerful router from her broadband supplier. I had a similar problem and fixed it with a devolo repeater. pm me if you need more info on the repeater.

PM? They're not exactly confidential - what's wrong with just mentioning which one you got in a post?

My neighbour's wireless router is through the wall from my TV and as such my Sky box thing that gives me catch up TV was sometimes losing it's connection because that signal was stronger than my router's wifi.

Then I discovered that it also worked on 5G, so does my Virgin router.

    Problem solved
