Topica Spam (app.topica.com)

There is an organisation called Topica which is used as a marketing email generator by many well known organisations. I have been receiving up to a 100 spam emails a day over the last couple of weeks after they got hold of my address. If you go onto the Internet and Google them, they have a login site for companies who want to use them. I have had emails from the AA, Greenpeace, The Economist, Vanquis Bank, BT and one fromTesco. Many of the emails say this is not from the company direct, but from one of their mailing houses and when challenged some of the companies admit this.
However, the one from Tesco which I challenged to Tesco, and they have come back and said it is a phishing email.
Clearly Topica are now selling emails lists to dodgy email marketing companies. Hopefully some of the well known names who use them will realise they are dodgy and stop doing so. I have had a positive response from some of them that I have contacted. So even if it is a legitimate company with a legitimate offer, if it has an app.topica.com or some variation of that email address on the email you get, don't touch it with a barge pole!

I have also been getting numerous emails from this company. They DO NOT respect the opt-out requests from people they are spamming and by clicking the opt-out link they actually seem to increase the spam to the email account. I have setup a filter to forward all their spam to Trash.
On an email server I manage I have tried to block them from physically connecting to the server, but they seem to have an almost endless supply of IP addresses, so when I block one, they move to another! They are determine to fill mailboxes with spam. As the OP says, dont touch them with a barge pole!0 -

Haha yes I second that .. Never ever click those unsubscribe links - Best policy is to delete and ignore ..
Sometimes, when im feeling particularly argumentative, I actually call the company direct and complain loudly that we would never ever ever do business with a company that presented itself in this way.
If more people did this , then the companies in question may think twice about employing such tactics to reach potential customers0 -
I get loads from these too, it's a pity there wasn't some way of pinging them straight back to them :rotfl:#StaySafeWishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year0
