Child Tax Credits

HELP!

We are disputing an overpayment on our child tax credits from 2009 and are now receiving letters from a debt collection agency. I have sent evidence that we have done everything right but haven't heard from HMRC for about two years! Where can we go from here? Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • I think we were written to in 2011, started the dispute then. We haven't received any tax credits since September 2010 even though we were both out of work in 2011. I have sent bank statements and phoned them when we were out of work and back in work. The last time we heard from them was May 2013, and now at the end of January we get a letter from debt collection agency. We can't afford to pay anything back. I just don't understand the system, how much are we entitled and why do we get it upfront????
