no credit agreement but on record ?????

Hi

I've applied for a job and they did a Credit search on me.

It came up with ' 1 public utility account!' 9 months ago which I was in arrears with them for700 pounds. But they don't have further information on this. So they have requested it of me.

Yes I was in arrears with EON but this because I was in dispute with the balance and went to the ombudsman. I know I can back this information with the company I applied a job with. So it isn't a problem.

But my question is. Could EON put this on my record even though I don't have a credit agreement with them I.e no direct debit set up with them.

Also why can't the employers see any further info about the utility company? As in name and reason for it being on my record??

Thirdly, why doesn't noddle show this info??

    Eon T&Cs state that:
We inform credit rating agencies about how you manage your account. If you do not pay us as agreed, it may affect your credit rating.
Credit Reference Agencies can show more than just agreements regulated under Consumer Credit Act 1974 which is fairly narrow set.

    For example

    https://web.archive.org/web/20140810181944/http://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/sample-credit-report.html
Account information - The term "credit" covers every account that gives you something of value - money, goods or services - that you can use today, on the understanding that you will repay the lender at a later date. That's why you'll find items such as utility and mobile phone accounts here, as well as credit cards, loans and mortgages.

You admit yourself you were in arrears with them, so, the sort answer is, yes they can.

    Hi myright

Just thought I'd pop on to confirm fermi's post and to add a couple of other bits. As per our T&C's, we do share information with a Credit Reference Agency. At the moment, the only one we share data with is Equifax. When we do, we give a true reflection of the status of an account at the time of the share. As there was an outstanding balance on your account at the time, this is what we would've shared.

Generally, where we've supplied a product and raised a bill, we'll share even though there may not be a formal payment arrangement in place. This applies to accounts where customers have paid promptly too. These accounts receive positive entries that can go towards building credit ratings. If you contact Equifax, you can see the information we've shared by checking your own personal credit file.

There's more information on our website about how we use personal data. Just pop 'credit reference agency' in the search box and select the top item on the next page.

    Hope this is of interest.

Aren't they just wonderful. And they never get it wrong, you know. You can rest assured that "the share" is spot on.
