compressed (zipped) Folders

Hi all

I was trying out another compression prog for a while but now decided I'd like 'Compressed (zipped) Folders' to be my default for zips

Problem is that I cannot get it to associate

Every time I use it I get "Do you want to designate Compressed (zipped)Folders as the application for handlilng ZIP files?"

I click yes but it still asks me every time.

No other prog is set to control zips - when I download a zip It arrives with the standard icon for a file that is not associated with a program

any ideas?

Open my computer, goto tools and folder options. Click the file types tab.

Scroll down to ZIP, click change button and browse for the .exe you want ZIP's to be assosciated with, then make SURE you have the 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file' ticked.

    Try that!

I tried that earlier and it didn't work

so just now I looked again.

there was no zip file extension in the list.
so I created a new entry for zip files and associated it with compressed...
    still didn't work
so deleted the entry I just made leaving no entry for zip files
and NOW for no reason it starts to work

    gotta love windows icon10.gif

    thanks

This is because by default if you haven't got any other software handling .zip files then Windows uses it own Compressed (zipped) folder option.

Sorry if I had noticed this post earlier, I could have mentioned that.

but the point is that it wasn't - kept on asking me if I wanted to make compressed (zipped) the default but then wouldn't do it when I clicked 'yes'

When I downloaded stuff, it had the standard not-associated blank icon instead of the zip icon

    sorted now anyway icon7.gif

The file types association in XP can be known not to behave correctly. I've had few problems associating jpg file types.
