Question about cashing a cheque

We have a cheque to cash into our joint account but our surname is spelt wrong on the cheque, only 2 letters are the wrong way around so not that noticeable. Also the cheque only says Mr and Mrs with just our surname no first names or initials.
Would it be an issue cashing this in?

Missing first name is surely not an issue, but misspelled surname theoretically can be. In practice - unlikely IMHO.0

best get changed. the bank cashier may not spot it, but someone will!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
If you "paying it in" there is little likely to be problematic. It is probably a matter of Quantum - what amount the cheque is! If it is thousands it will attract more attention than a few pounds.
If there is no reason for the bank to question it, they as the "collecting banker" are likely to just process it and the "paying" banker will not know who you are anyway.0 -
It is only for £500
Guess I'll try it and hope for the best0 -
Nothing much to lose. If they accept it they will process - if not they will return the cheque to you to get the (then) required alteration confirmed by the drawer.0

Often it seems to depend on the bank cashier.
I had one cheque where both my initials were quoted and the second one was rather debatable what it was - the cheque was rejected and I had go get it re-written.
Then I've had others for clubs and societies I am treasurer for go though with far worse errors or omissions on them - merely because the cashier did not notice at the time....helps if you put a block though en-masse!
The mal-formed ones I now put in via the self deposit - it would cost too much to post them back to me so on a risk base evaluation they let them through.0
