Vanquis few days late payment

Hello all,

Just after some quick advise really, I have a vanquis card which I've stopped using but the last payment on January 12th was due. I went online to their payment system and it was down for days due to an SQL issue on their site, it got to the 15th and I phoned them up. Paid the card off over the phone.

Since then I went onto the account online and noticed a late payment charge was on the account, called them and they removed the charge as I've never had a late payment since the two years of having the card.

I keep checking my experian report and the last update from them was the 11th Jan, now its the 17th Feb there still isn't an update on my report.

The main question is this, do you think Vanquis would have submitted a late payment to be lodged on my credit file? - I'm in the process of getting a Mortgage (decision in principle has gone through, application has been submitted and survey tomorrow) so I'm worrying alot!

If you think they would have submitted a late payment marker, how long does it take to show up on my report as its already over a month since the submitted payment which was around 3 days late.

Thanks for any advise

James

  • When did you make your mortgage application? If they ran their search before your late payment it wouldn't be on their search. One late payment shouldn't affect your application too much, but if you still are concerned, ask VQ to remove it and contact the referencing agency you use and ask to have the mark removed.
  • On my report it shows the searches by the bank for the mortgage already, a "quotation" one on 2nd feb (When I got the DIP/AIP) and 11th feb for my "first mortgage" labelled when I done the full application with the mortgage adviser. As stated above, the late payment isn't on my report yet, I really don't know whether they are going to lodge one or not!

I am very worried by it all as I have defaults to from over four years ago, however the mortgage adviser said due to these being over 3 years ago (halifax) then they don't really take it into account anymore....
  • Eh, you might get lucky and the late payment might not show up until after your mortgage is finalised. It could cause an issue, but I can't see a late payment being too big a problem. Don't worry yourself about it until the bank comes and says something.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
  • Thanks for the reply "thebritishbloke", I had further news today, my survey completed on the property and the mortgage offer has been sent off to me in the post!

However, still no update from Vanquis on my credit report :(

If I was lending several tens £000s secured against a property I wouldn't worry about a single late payment marker - but of course I'm not a mortgage lender.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • Don't worry about the late payment. If they removed this from your account prior to the monthly report being sent to the Credit Agencies, it will not show up on any credit check. If it does show up, you can call the Credit Card provider and ask them to remove it from your file (though you are unlikely to reach this stage if the late payment isn't showing on your credit file by now).

Worked in Credit cards for years.

Thank you all for your advise, I will be sure to use this forum again.

I have just noticed that Vanquis have updated the file with a green marker so all is well in the world, full steam ahead with the mortgage!

    Thanks again everyone!!!
