I would say that you want two inches minimum for grass areas and up to six inches for plants. I see an advert for ton bags delivered in London to M25 £100 or £90 per bag for more than one delivered. Google soil-compost co uk, I can't comment on the reliability e.t.c. of this company as I only did a quick google search but it could give you an idea of the price of topsoil in your area.0

Tesco & Homebase doing it at £125.00 per 0.9 Kg., but local suppliers were more in the region of £65 - £75
But check the Homebase website - 50lt Homebase compost at £1.00, & 60ltr Westfield Compost at £2.00 may be still going. Clearance price - you'll need to check the local stores - CSD with product code - it wasn't on display when I bought some (on three different days).I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
