Question on Surveys

Hi,

I'm about to buy a 2nd floor apartment. Its one of five in a conversion done about 12-13 years ago.

My mortgage provider are giving me a "Free Mortgage Valuation" which I appreciate is for their benefit mostly.

My question is should I get my own survey done as well?

I though about a home buyer report but cant help thinking that as they'll only be able to access the flat I'm buying that it might just be a waste of money?

Does anyone have any views on this?

Regards

A survey will check over the general building, not just your flat, which can flag any issues which you could find yourself jointly liable for in years to come, eg pointing, roof etc

It's up to you whether you bother, I normally don't, but in a flat you can find yourself forced into things when they have been left for years. But if recently converted hopefully it's all ok.
