Smart Alarms + Thermostat

Hi -
We’re currently in the middle of a small refurb and are looking at purchasing the Nest Protect alarm system… 4 in total for different zones in the house.
As part of our refurb we’re also having a new Worcester Greenstar 38CDi Boiler installed and have discussed with our plumber about having the Worcester Wave smart thermostat installed to go with it, but I’ve since seen that Nest do a smart thermostat as well.
Has anyone had experience with it and are we better off getting the complete Nest set… alarms and thermostat for additional cross-compatibility?
