Tuesday 17 February - What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning Ziggy

Well its nice to see the sun shining!

Came down this morning to find the oven had been on all night. I remember not switching it off immediately as I normally do because there was some juice left in the fish pie so I left it to keep hot till we wanted it. And obviously forgot to turn the oven off. Idiot. I wonder how much that has cost us? Plus the saftely factor, its a gas oven.

Have checked banking. Bit depressing. Because our energy DD went up, but I havent amended our savings DD, the amount we are overdrawn by each month, which used to sit at a flat £150 and cost us 6p a month, so I didnt mind and would rather pay off CCs first anyway, is now at £200, already, with 9 days till we get paid again. We have had another bill of £40 to fund this month too, so I could take that into account and think, well it wont be there next month...or do I reduce my savings amount?
I suppose the logic would say, stop saving for 1 month, then the OD would be at practically zero anyway. But I dont want to! :(

Going out in a bit to buy golden syrup & some nice fruit to go with our pancakes tonight.

Hope all the poorly people are feeling better. Looking at your Maria!

    Morning all :j

Thanks for starting us off Ziggy :)

Nice and sunny today, a real change from yesterday :D

    So far today I have:
    Checked banks
Checked ebay - the two items I put on yesterday have watchers :)
    Fed chickens and dog

Finished tidying bookcase and put other books away. Amazon Trade in doesn't seem to want any of the others that I have surplus to requirements at the moment, but I will try again in a few weeks time.

Rearranged another cupboard to accommodate some items that were evicted when I rehomed most of the remaining books. I still have too much stuff, but the decluttering has made a difference. I love the space where the dusty, cluttered old bookshelves were. OH has filled in all the holes and painted over, and I found a nice picture to go on the wall :)

Cleaned up kitchen and wiped worktops

    Still to do:

Washing out on line when done

Cleaning - stairs, bathroom and main bedroom today. The front window looks very grubby in the sun as well :(

Decluttering - I think the cupboard under the sink today  I want something that is possibly in there, and will check before I buy more, so might as well bite the bullet and sort it out.

Meals from stores - I am getting to the stage where I am running out of a few things and could do with doing a proper shop, but don't want to go over the GC budget I set myself :o I can do macaroni cheese mixed veg and grilled tomatoes tonight (have everything I need for that) and we have some bits for lunch. Aiming for another NSD :)

Make something for pudding - I have loads of HG and foraged fruit in the freezer.

    Loaf in bread maker later

Right, I think I will tackle that window, to get me in the mood for hauling the Dyson up the stairs :(

Have a nice day everyone :)

  • Hi Everyone,

    Done/ to do today:

    - Signed up to the free credit report service Noodle. Everything looks ok apart from I have a link with my ex-boyfriend from 10 years ago still on my report! We had a joint account together but closed it 10 years ago, I'd asked my bank to remove him as a financial associate years ago! Turns out he'd been trying to apply for a loan last year and my credit file had been searched in the process! I've raised a dispute to remove him from my file. So glad I've checked!

    - Had a doctors appointment this morning and had to pay for a prescription, so not a NSD. I did walk home however and save £1.50 bus fare (signed off work for a little while)

    - All meals from stores

    - Ironing to finish off (boo)

    - Had an email back about my boyfriend's missing birthday present. Apparently they've all had flu and have now posted it. Hope it arrives before the big day!

    - Wedding acceptance to post

    - Free postcode lottery to check

    - Update finances book as bought prescription on my debit card

    Afternoon all!

Yesterday didn't go at all according to plan as we spent most of it in A&E with my mum who has unknowingly had the tiny battery from her hearing aid wedged in her ear canal for weeks. After a few hours at one hospital where they couldn't get it out she was referred to ENT at a bigger hospital who eventually removed it after a couple of painful hours so it was a late one for us and dinner came from a petrol station! We have to go back tomorrow as they need to check what damage the battery acid has done as it had corroded.

Lunch today is a leftover petrol station sausage roll. I was supposed to meet a friend for coffee this morning but was exhausted after last night plus my cough has now been joined by a runny nose and headache so we have rescheduled.

I've just had my first possible mystery shopper meals by email and may try to do one of them on Thursday lunch time when I have rescheduled to see my friend. I'm not sure if they expect you to have three courses but if not we could probably have lunch out instead of coffee and even if we had to top up the bill a little it would still be by less than it would cost for coffee and cake in a coffee shop.

Sorry to hear about the cash register, Bobarella, the whole thing sucks, scumbags.

Maria, sending you virtual chicken soup!
