A personal trainer does have to have a basic qualification in nutrition and weight management to get the level 3 cert. A gym instructor doesn't although many people who work in gyms as gym instructors are also personal trainers.
People do too much cardio in gyms, I've seen people huffing and puffing away on the treadmill for months and nothing has changed in their body shape.
Hiit works because of the epoc effect. More people should lift. After many years of not lifting I started lifting weights a while back.
I do that, hiit, walk, boxing classes and a bootcamp
I used to do body attack which is high impact aerobics and a tough class 6 times a week but after an injury I.went back to it and I wasn't getting results or weight loss.
What you eat is very important. My gym instructor does me a gym programme that consists of free weights and body weight exercises only.
Do something you enjoy. But taking yourself out of your comfort zone is what will get you the results.0 -
A lot of women are scared to lift as they think they will bulk up. So you get all these classes like lbt where women have piddly little 2kg weights. Some classes should come with a disclaimer that say, this will do nothing for you.
And of course there's toning. Which actually means to build muscle and drop body fat.
If I were going to do any class apart from hiit it would be boxing with gloves and pads or a tough spin class.
I'm 46, I'm probably the same weight I was 10 years ago, definitely the same weight I was 20 years ago but I've been much much bigger in the last 2 years.
26kgs bigger. What got the weight off was eating clean, lifting heavy weights and hiit/boxing.
If I had still been using the cardio equipment at the gym and not a lot else I'd be two stones heavier than I am now and stuck there for good.
Diet matters. The phrase you can't out train a bad diet may not apply to everyone. But it will apply to many people.0
