getting off the sick and back to work

Hello

Can you help me please with a question about Employment Support Allowance.
My current Drs note expires on 12 March 2015, that will be 4 months since I claimed due to illness. I planned on returning to work and not asking my GP for another note when this one expired as I will be fit for work and Employment Support Allowance was only ever a temporary measure to see me through.
Today I have received an appointment to have a face to face medical with Atos on 9 March, 3 days before my Drs note expires.

What would be the right way of doing this. Would I go to the medical then end my claim 3 days later, or ring DWP and tell them that I will be ending my claim as it seems daft to have a medical when I will be starting work a few days later.
Will they allow me to receive further payments until my note expires and I return to work or will the payments stop instantly. I don't want to be in a position of having no payment and or wage.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.
If I called DWP today and explained that I would like my claim to end on the day that my Drs note expires or sent them a letter (so I have proof of cancelling) explaining this then would my payments then continue until that date or would they end today.
Also would DWP still expect me to attend the face to face medical even though my claim would be ending 3 days later.
    Thanks again

If there is any chance that you may be claiming in the near future for a related condition for ESA, you want to make very sure that your claim is simply ended, without a finding of you being fit.
Do not say 'I am fit'.
But 'I want to stop my claim'.
  • Thank you, so I basically just telephone them , or would you send a letter as evidence for the future ? and say I want to end my claim from such date, I don't have to give them a reason.
Can I give them advance notice of the date I want to end my claim or do I do it on the actual date.

    Thanks again
