I would assume that the offence was originally brought in to avoid people claiming that they were not going to drive the car if they hadn't actually been seen driving, so it is quite a widely drawn offence. Sod's Law suggests that the policeman just happens by as you press the key, it being chucking out time and they are on their busy time - how do they then know what your intentions are, they've just seen a drunk man unlock a car that they are heading towards.
why would he be heading towards the car? In the scenario he would come to the door (or even through a window if available), hit the fob button and the lights flash to indicate it's unlocked, turn around and go straight back inside and hand the keys in.
Even if someone was watching the fact he immediately went inside and handed over the keys would show he had no intention of driving. When he does head for the car he could be stopped and searched, no keys, no in charge of the car...
I don't know why you are so argumentative over what is a quite plausible scenario.====0 -

I agree excessive idling isn't good for an engine, but a modern engine with the correct oil, no, oil starvation isn't a particular issue.
I've not seen many engines go on to boost idling either, I'd rather get some oil around first before driving a turbocharged engine out of the two scenarios.
Going on about using the correct oil, you should try using the correct oil yourself. VAG & Castrol both recommend 5W-30 in all their engines, petrol & diesel including those on longlife servicing.0 -

So I'm afraid you are incorrect

I find it extraordinary when people trawl through old posts and resurrect them. Sad.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

Yes, I agree. It's awful isn't it? Especially when the information they're giving is incorrect.0
